Janice Marie Zerfas, Ph. D. is a published poet and Poet in Residence at the Jane Adams Research Center in St. Joseph, Michigan. She is former writing teacher at Lake Michigan College where she was also English Department Chair, & voted Faculty of the Year, having taught 32 years. She also taught in medium security at Ionia Prison, and the first elder center in Lansing. She writes poetry and creative non-fiction published in many literary reviews, the South Dakota Review, the MacGuffin, Passager, and more, & recently including The Dunes Review, Presence: A Journal of Catholic Poetry, Poets on Poetry: Sunflowers Rising (to raise funds for Ukraine refugees), and forthcoming in The Bear River Review.
Janice’s ekphrastic poetry has been published and or presented in various venues: Rattle (Author’s Choice), “Facial Recognition,” also recorded by the author. A collage-poem, “Texas Heartbeat Vigilantism,” in both the Lowell Art Gallery and a chapbook, funded by Michigan Humanities. At the Poetry and Art Exhibit at Fountain Street Church, poems were read responding to art by local artists.
