The Krasl Clay Artist Guild is a group of experienced ceramicists with independent access to the KAC ceramics studio. Members support and inspire one another through collaboration in the studio and participation in KAC events including Krasl Art Fair on the Bluff and Art Markets.

Curbside Guild Membership

$75 Quarterly Payments: Jan 1, April 1, July 1, October 1

Curbside Guild Membership includes cone 04 bisque and cone 6 glaze firings. Members may drop off/pick up art to be fired* during KAC open hours but MUST email nmargoni@krasl.org 24 hours ahead of time.

Curbside members may go into the studios to drop off/pick up art (except during scheduled classes). Curbside members MAY NOT use the KAC studios and equipment beyond dropping off and picking up art.

*Clay fired in KAC kilns must be purchased at KAC.


In-Studio Membership

$175 Quarterly Payments: Jan 1, April 1, July 1, October 1

In-Studio Guild Membership includes cone 04 bisque and cone 6 glaze firings, house-made glazes, and independent use of the ceramics and glazing studios during KAC open hours (except during scheduled classes). Wheels, slab-roller, and other tools are available.

Open Studio Hours

Studios are available during regular KAC open hours, except during scheduled classes.  All available studio hours are reflected in the Guild Studio Calendar, which is updated regularly and posted in the studios. Guild members MUST sign in and out at the front desk when using the ceramics studios, even for short visits.


Clay Sales

Clay may be purchased for $30 per 25 lb. bag.  We stock a variety of cone 6 clay bodies from West Michigan Clay and Laguna.

Clay Extruders

Handheld clay extruders with a variety of dies are available for checkout. Email nmargoni@krasl.org to coordinate. See extruders and dies HERE.

Firing

Generally, the turnaround time for firing is about 2 weeks, but it may take up to 1 month depending on the amount of work we receive from guild members and students.

COVID Requirements/Policies

  • MASKS:

  • When Berrien County is classified by the CDC as HIGH: masks are required for all visitors
  • When Berrien County is classified by the CDC as MEDIUM or LOW: masks are optional.
  • Guild members must maintain a minimum distance of 3 ft from one another; when this cannot be sustained, mask up.

  • KAC Vaccination Policy: This policy is effective as of 10/15/21

  • Maintain at least 3 ft distance from other guild members and staff at all times.


BENEFITS

  • Access to the KAC ceramic studio during regular KAC hours of operation, except during scheduled classes.
  • Storage space, work tables, hand-building tools, potters’ wheels, and glazes are provided. Clay may be purchased at the KAC reception desk.
  • All artwork produced is monitored and fired by the Ceramics Studio Manager.
  • Eligibility to apply for participation in the KAC Faculty and Guild Open Studio Tent during the Krasl Art Fair on the Bluff.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Previous ceramics coursework in a recognized arts organization.
  • Completed Guild Application Form
  • Orientation meeting with KAC Ceramics Studio Technician.
  • Members must maintain a clean workspace and be respectful towards others.
  • Guild artists are encouraged to come often, stay long, and create with enthusiasm!

PAYMENT

  • Class discounts or coupons do not apply to Open Studio memberships.
  • Fees are non-refundable.
  • Dues are to be paid in advance at the reception desk.
  • Members are responsible for paying dues in a timely manner; dues may be paid by check, cash, or credit card.
  • Failure to make required payments will terminate membership. The KAC reserves the right to refuse renewal.

MEMBERSHIP

  • Krasl Clay Artist Guild membership is not to be confused with a Krasl Art Center membership and its benefits. KAC membership is encouraged but not required for Clay Artist Guild consideration and participation.
