KRASL ART CENTER’S NEW BIENNIAL: 2022 INVITATIONAL

Krasl Art Center’s New Biennial: 2022 Invitational is a community-wide showcase of art outdoors. Partnering with our cities, county, and art and culture leaders, the exhibition fosters exploration and discovery, and celebrates originality and diversity in our creative community. Explore all installations in KAC’s interactive sculpture map.

NEW ART EXPERIENCES

In years past, the biennial focused solely on sculpture. This year, it ventures into a multitude of art and perspectives, including sculpture, sound-based installation, an interactive art vending machine, and large-scale photographs. Additionally, KAC will explore the concept of a legal graffiti wall with recent exhibiting artist Guillermo ‘ASMA Speeks’ Sotelo. These outdoor art experiences will be featured throughout KAC’s grounds, parallel to the Box Factory for the Arts, along the shoreline at Silver Beach County Park, and throughout the Arts District in Benton Harbor. Visitors can learn more about the work on view, hear from select artists, and watch related videos online via KAC’s Sculpture Map.

Sculptures from KAC’s public art collection may also be found near the riverfront at the Margaret B. Upton Arboretum and amid scenic views of Lake Michigan at Lookout Park on Red Arrow Highway. Along the way, you may discover additional public monuments, murals, and artworks that are part of our vibrant cultural community.

A new installation in KAC’s East Garden will also open alongside the New Biennial. Experience Thomas Freier’s Art Dome as part of your creative explorations this summer.

NEW CURATORS

Artist Foster Willey has been making art for public spaces for over fifteen years. His brother, Guy Willey, designs museum exhibitions, public art sites, and architecture. Both grew up in this community and hold memories of KAC since their childhood when their father was a teaching artist. KAC is pleased the Willey brothers are working together again to curate the work of five Detroit-based artists on the sculpture pads at the Box Factory for the Arts.
