In 2022, Krasl Art Center’s annual members’ exhibition expanded to include any resident of Berrien County. Participation in the new Community ⇄ Members’ Show doubled that year, and the galleries burst with the art of local and regional artists age 4 to 94.
The exhibition has always been a time for local artists to gather in friendship and creativity and share their most recent work in the galleries. It coincides with the holiday season, so participating artists can bring friends and family from out of town to see our community’s exceptional talent. In one location, and all manner of media, we can see the work of students and faculty, children and retirees, hobby artists and professionals. The artwork ranges from watercolor landscapes to abstract metal sculpture. We see the personal passions of the people who make up our community, and these passions are just as diverse as those who hold them: important figures from American history, a special trip to photograph the Aurora Borealis, a new technique learned in the studio, a portrait of a friend.
KAC continues this tradition with the 2023 Community ⇄ Members’ Show, celebrating community members and KAC members side-by-side and enjoying a glimpse at what makes our area truly special.
IN THE LOUNGE: SARA ALEXIS
Sara Alexis was born in Lansing, Michigan, and currently resides with her husband and daughters on a wooded homestead in Decatur, Michigan – along with their dog, cats, chickens, turkeys, and sheep! As a kid, Sara was always borrowing her mom’s pastels, pencils, and paints; she was always making something. Eventually she found her niche in wood art, creating shapes and layers with her scrollsaw and using pyrography and paint to make those shapes come alive.
Winner of the 2022 Members’ Award, Sara Alexis will present a small solo exhibition of her work in The Lounge at KAC alongside the ‘2023 Community ⇄ Members’ Show.’
Artwork: Samsara by Sara Alexis.
