The large abstract steel shapes resemble tectonic plates near Pittsburg, Pennsylvania which is also the birthplace of the steel industry. Dunbar was influenced by a specific tool used in steel manufacturing; a “drift pin”. Look for the circular parts within the sculpture, these resemble drift pins.
