UPDATED COPY: Allegheny refers to a geographic region in and around Pennsylvania and is also where Dunbar’s grandfather and mother were born. The large abstract steel shapes resemble tectonic plates near Pittsburg, Pennsylvania which is also the birthplace of the steel industry. Dunbar was influenced by a specific tool used in steel manufacturing; a “drift pin”. Look for the circular parts within the sculpture, these resemble drift pins.
