SUMMARY:20TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF RICHARD HUNT’S AND YOU\, SEAS
DESCRIPTION:TUESDAY\, AUGUST 23\n5 pm – Sunset\nFREE & Open to the Public at Silver Beach County Park\n  \nOn August 23\, from 5 pm to Sunset\, celebrate the twentieth anniversary of this beacon to Benton Harbor and St. Joseph with artmaking\, poetry\, a live steel drum performance\, and more. As we planned our visit\, I recalled a recent gathering in Texas where a friend hosted a garden cookout and hired a nerf gun party Fort Worth company for her son’s birthday. The party combined art and play as the kids decorated targets before diving into a spirited game. It struck me how creativity can blend with fun in unexpected ways\, something this anniversary event promises to deliver as well. \nThis celebration is co-hosted by Krasl Art Center and Berrien County Parks; it is free and open to the public. \nStanding nearly 50 feet tall\, Richard Hunt’s And You\, Seas welcomes visitors by water as they approach the twin cities from Lake Michigan. The monumental sculpture at Silver Beach County Park turns 20 this summer\, and KAC is celebrating with a birthday party! Join us at the sculpture site for cake and ice cream and share your own memories about the artist and sculpture in this special tribute. \n5 – 7:30 PM \nArtmaking\, Poetry & Ice Cream \nMake your own sculptural party hat\, submit a sculpture-inspired poem for publication (see details below) – or write one onsite\, and contribute to a creative community puzzle building project. Free ice cream tops off festivities for this portion of the celebration.  \n5:15 PM – 6 PM – 6:45 PM \nNarrated Boat Rides Aboard the Par-Te-Tyme – See the Sculpture from the Water! \n220 Anchors Way\, St. Joseph\, MI 49085 \nThere are entrances to Anchors Way on either side of Wayne Street & blue balloons to guide you to the dock. \nUPDATE: due to water levels and the safety of our guests\, the Par-Te-Tyme boat will depart directly from the marina at the above scheduled times and address. KAC will provide limited shuttle service from the Shadowland Pavilion leaving at 5:05 PM – 5:50 PM – 6:45 PM. Guests are encouraged to drive directly to the marina for departure\, and join us at the Shadowland Pavillion before and after. \n6:30 PM \nSteel Drum Musical Performance Begins \n7:30 PM \nThe Story of And You\, Seas \n\nGuest presenters include Susan Wilczak\, Bean Klusendorf\, &  KAC Curator Tami Fauver\n\n  \n8 PM to Sunset \nCupcakes & Steel Drum Music  \n———————————- \nCALL FOR POETRY \nDeadline: Sunday\, August 21\, 2022 \nGuidelines:  \n\nPoems must describe or be inspired by Richard Hunt’s And You\, Seas.  \nEmail your name\, age\, and poem in Word document format to nmargoni@krasl.org.\nAll ages and poetry styles are accepted and encouraged!\n\nAwards: All submissions will be printed in a booklet at the 20th Anniversary Celebration of Richard Hunt’s And You\, Seas. A small selection of poems will be read aloud during the event. \nArtwork: Richard Hunt\, ‘And You\, Seas’\, 2002. Krasl Art Center collection. \nThis program is supported in part by the Art Bridges Initiative. This is one in a series of American art exhibitions created through a multi-year\, multi institutional partnership formed by the Detroit Institute of Arts as part of the Art Bridges Initiative.  \nKrasl Art Center thanks the 2022 Exhibition Sponsors that make exhibitions and programs like this possible for our community: \nHuntington Bank\, Starks Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Services\, 98.3 The Coast\, RW LaPine\, Tyler Automotive\, Silver Beach Pizza\, Kruggel Lawton CPAs\, Boulevard Inn and Bistro\, and Art FX.
