DESCRIPTION:Influenced by the cultural richness of his Caribbean heritage and Pan-African studies\, Dexter R. Jones unwaveringly removes the veil of self-conscious inhibition by eliminating preconceived notions of beauty. Instead\, he masterfully reveals true splendor and regality\, even amidst vulnerability. Jones relentlessly pushes the characterization of beauty not often seen. Encompassing a mixture of texture\, hues\, flesh and heavy contrast in his editorial photography\, his expertise in justly capturing women of vast shades is indicative of his strong matriarchal upbringing.  \nBorn in Brooklyn\, New York\, Jones works on artistic projects\, editorial assignments\, and creative collaborations in both photography and film. Jones and Chicago sculptor Barbara Cooper went on view at KAC on March 13\, just as we closed our doors to protect our community in the midst of COVID-19. In April\, we were delighted to extend the exhibitions through August so that visitors might have the opportunity to see these powerful artworks in person. KAC is now open to the public\, and the two exhibitions remain on view through August 31.  \nAnd what better way for members to experience this work than with special member tours?  Sign up to join Executive Director Julia Gourley Donohue or Deputy Director & Curator Tami Miller on a guided walk through the galleries each Thursday in August. Hear their stories and insights\, discuss the artwork on view\, and enjoy an intimate private tour in these members-only events. \nTours are limited to 9 KAC Members (8 on Aug. 6) at a time and advance registration is required.
