Multiple studios are ready to welcome students 13+  back for in person art classes after a year-long hiatus. The George Krasl Memorial Concert (GKMC) Fund is one more way their legacy continues to give back to our community. \nThe finale toKAC’s SMSO Summer Pop-Up Garden Concerts is funded in part by the 2021 GKMC Fund and combines the visual and musical arts on Thursday\, August 26 with the Martin Wind Duo. Kassia and Sam Martin’s program explores the connections between music and storytelling. They will play pieces inspired by stories\, from mythology\, opera\, and movies – some of which will include narration along with the music. Pieces include Syrinx by Claude Debussy\, The Pied Piper of Harlem by Adolphus Hailstork\, and Story Hour by Philip Parker. \nEnjoy different musical selections inspired by opera\, mythology\, pop culture\, storytelling\, and collaboration. Bring a lawn chair and picnic basket to this sunny\, free series held among beautiful artworks on Krasl Art Center’s campus. Advance Registration required.\n  \nLearn how to sculpt with air during this collaborative\, hands-on workshop inspired by BLOW UP II. Led by Dutch architect Eric Schrijver and American artist and art educator Sarah Justice\, the team behind Levilab\, we will explore geometry and science\, color and light as we build our very own inflatables on KAC’s Oval Lawn. \nThis in-person workshop will be outdoors and socially distanced\, but multi-generational\, hands-on collaboration within each family group is encouraged. DESCRIPTION:THURSDAYS AT 4 PM IN AUGUST \nKrasl Art Center (KAC) is thrilled to host musicians from the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra (SMSO) for a free outdoor concert series! \nKAC’s benefactors\, Olga & George Krasl \, wanted to “make life more worthwhile”. The George Krasl Memorial Concert (GKMC) Fund is one more way their legacy continues to give back to our community. \nThe finale toKAC’s SMSO Summer Pop-Up Garden Concerts is funded in part by the 2021 GKMC Fund and combines the visual and musical arts on Thursday\, August 26 with the Martin Wind Duo. Kassia and Sam Martin’s program explores the connections between music and storytelling. They will play pieces inspired by stories\, from mythology\, opera\, and movies – some of which will include narration along with the music. Pieces include Syrinx by Claude Debussy\, The Pied Piper of Harlem by Adolphus Hailstork\, and Story Hour by Philip Parker. \nEnjoy different musical selections inspired by opera\, mythology\, pop culture\, storytelling\, and collaboration. Bring a lawn chair and picnic basket to this sunny\, free series held among beautiful artworks on Krasl Art Center’s campus. Donations are appreciated and support the 2021 Berrien County Arts Challenge. \nAugust 5\nBrook Bennett\, cello\nJessie Bennett\, violin\nMark Portolese\, violin\nSara Churchill\, viola\n\nThe program will include an afternoon of light classical music with “The Big Three” of classical composers; Mozart\, Beethoven\, and Haydn. The music will pick up and bring you to your feet with some dance music from Latin and South America.\n\n\n\n\nAugust 12 – CANCELED DUE TO EXTREME HEAT AND HUMIDITY\nBrandon LePage\, flute\nRachel Miller\, harp\n\nSpeaking of Latin music\, this flute and harp duet will have you dancing all night long with Piazzola’s History of the Tango. This dance-themed program will be fun\, inspiring\, and get you moving!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAugust 19  \nDan Price\, trumpet\nRenée Vogen\, horn\nCorey Sansolo\, trombone\n\nFrom Baroque to jazz\, this brass trio has a large potpourri of music! DESCRIPTION:Workshop Date: Saturday\, October 9\, 2021 \n\nKrasl Art Center believes art has the power to connect people with diverse backgrounds and experiences and spark important conversations. KAC education programs connect people by collaborating with local and regional partner organizations\, offering cross-curricular learning opportunities at Visiting Artist Workshops.  \n\nLearn how to make a clamshell artist box and your very own accordion book to go inside with artlab artists Mary Uthuppuru and Andrea Peterson! These dynamic artists will introduce materials and techniques as you experiment with your own approach to storytelling. She currently teaches both the Fiber and Material Studies Hot Projects Glass Production class in her studio for the School of the Art Institute\, Chicago. \nThe evening will include a brief annual meeting of KAC’s membership.
